Swimming Pools in France Water Treatment
Water sanitation is often a neglected subject when pools are sold in France. There are numerous ways of treating the water in your pool, which one you decide to use is up to you. The correct balance of the water in your pool is crucial to the quality of water you swim in and equally for the lifespan of your pools liner, render or tiling. SEE OUR RANGE OF POOL CHEMICALS - CLICK HERE Basically you use a sanitising agent such as chlorine, bromine, bianguides and keep the water at neutral pH and total alkalinity. There are other factors such as calcium hardness and stabiliser levels (cyanuric acid) which have an effect on the amount of sanitiser necessary and will cause pH "swings" which need monitoring and rectifying on a regular basis. Couple that with microscopic particles which can be removed by special filter medias or "flocking" agents, all the different types of algea which can occur and we are only beginning to scratch the surface on the whole subject of water chemistry and treatment. We have articles covering water treatment, a free pool care guide and can even carry out an 8 point analysis of your pool water, simply bring or send us a sample and we will test for the following:
We are extending our range of test strips, an easy way of testing your own water quality at a glance, simply take a strip, swirl it around in the pool and read the results in a matter of seconds. We have strips to cover all types of pool and water sanitiser. If your pool is being used for more than one family at a time, in perhaps a campsite or gite application it could be classed as a public pool and therefore be subject to the regulations set out and monitored by the DDASS (health authority). To comply your pool will have to treat the entire water in the pool much quicker than a standard domestic pool which will mean a much larger filtration system is required with automated chemical dosing, you must change 30ltrs of water per bather per day and certain levels of water standard kept and tested on a regular basis. Don't be fooled into buying a pool which does not have the capacity to conform to these regulations as it may not be possible to upgrade a pool if an inspector should visit and find your pool to be substandard. Call us today if you need to discuss your requirements. NON CHLORINE With environmental concerns becoming more and more important we recommend the use of a completely non chlorine system called PristineBlue. Pristine blue is a revolutionary system which uses copper sulphate as a sanitiser which has just been approved for use as a drinking water additive in Europe. The system is easy to use and is similar in price to chlorine but the waste water from your pool can be used to water the garden and has no detrimental effect to the environment. Read more about PristineBlue here: www.pristineblue.co.uk We can convert any pool to PristineBlue in a matter of 24hrs, with the exception of pools which use Revacil or Baquacil which take a little longer.
CHLORINE Chlorine is still the easiest and most popular form of pool sanitiser, you can buy it in many DIY outlets, pool stores or even your local supermarket in season. Chlorine can be injected by means of a fully automated dosing system like the JEP control which regularly doses the pool with the exact amount of liquid chlorine needed and regulates it every three minutes taking into consideration additional bathing loads or temperature and weather conditions. It can also be added manually or by means of dosing chambers which leak a set amount of chlorine into the pool on a continuing basis. SALT Salt pools are very popular by demand, most people will ask for salt simply because they don't want chlorine, the fact of the matter is that salt pools turn the salt into chlorine by means of an electrode which treats the water as it flows through it. There are many systems available in France but from experience they are notoriously difficult to have repaired, are usually not set up correctly or not used correctly resulting in all sorts of problems. The most important factor is that pools treated with salt may eventually be phased out, all the pools in France using salt that are being backwashed into the fresh water system are causing havoc with the environment. If your salt system is running correctly you should just about be able to detect a slight taste of salt in your pool water, we have seen salt pools which smell of strong chlorine and have even been bleached as the equipment was set up incorrectly. People will say that a salt pools water is much softer and at the end of the day it is personal choice, as with any sanitiser if set up and maintained correctly there will be no problems. Please take a look at our articles if you wish to find out more about water treatment, it is a huge subject which we ourselves learn more about every year, pools don't have to be complicated, the easiest thing to do if you are having severe problems with your water quality is to drain your pool and start again before throwing gallons of chemicals at it to try and sort a problem out. Top up your pool by 25-50% at a time to dilute the water in it and do not fully drain you pool in one go unless you are changing a liner or carrying our major repairs.
